This table provides a list of rubrics mentioned in different places throughout the Handbook. It seeks to help you decide on the assessment form or set of rubrics that best fits your needs. If this selection does not meet your needs, try asking your students to develop their own set of criteria or evaluation form. You may also want to keep in mind that if trust among your group members is low they may not feel comfortable evaluating each other. As a result the evaluations may not prove very useful. You may also want to discuss whether or not the team evaluations will be based on a norm or if the evaluations will be used to track change over time. Both methods are valid, but their success in based on how comfortable your students feel with the method chosen. Keep in mind your students probably have never been asked to evaluate one of their peers. If you find students are apprehensive about evaluating team members, you may want to consider using an evaluation practice exercise. This exercise will help students discuss some of the issues surrounding peer evaluations and provide a non threatening environment to try out the process. This type of exercise will also provide you with insights into the areas where your students need the most guidance or practice. Finally, don't limit yourself to one type of form or one set of rubrics. Consider giving your students access to a set of rubrics. Ask them to use those rubrics to write one paragraph evaluations of each of their team members and themselves. Another option is give each student a copy of the Critical Thinking Rubric then ask them to assess their own critical thinking abilities. You might ask them reflect on how they have demonstrated their critical thinking abilities during the past week of the course and how they would like to improve. All of the "team" evaluation forms are excellent for formative evaluations. Ask team members to use the form to evaluate their team, then don't have members share their responses, but give them twenty minutes to discuss how they would like to change or improve the way their team works together during the next week. Have each team write a summary of their team development plan for the week to turn in to you and then keep them accountable.
